Upcycled Plastic Bags

I'm starting to think my love of upcycling may be turning into a bit of an obsession as here's yet another upcycling blog!  Today we're upcycling plastic bags.

Pink and Turquoise Bracelet by FearMe
£2.50 (+ £3 p&p)
This bangle is made entirely out of recycled plastic carrier bags.  They have been knitted together using 5.5 mm needles and then baked. They have melted together to form a lovely purple colour. The bangle is solid and does not have any scratchy parts or sharp edges. It measures approx 1 inch deep, 9.25 inches around the circumference and about 3 inches across the inside. 

Black and White Butterfly Brooch by HannahLongmuir

Made from recycled plastic bags combined to form a fabric. The plastic bag used was a zebra print pattern, so this butterfly has a geometric zebra quality. The plastic crinkles slightly replicating the texture of a butterfly wing. He has a dark blue thread body and red goggly eyes made from painted wooden beads.  Measures approx 14cm at its widest point

Outer made entirely from recycled plastic carrier bags and wrappings. Inner wallet holds up to 10 cards.

Crocheted Clutch Bag by upcycleruk

Recycled plastic bags never looked so good. Black like oil, soft like leather, resistant like only plastic can be. Mixed with repurposed motobike seat for trimming - ideal materials for this incredibly study and beautifully handmade purse. Eco friendly chic at it's finest.

Orange and Red Clutch by Greengillydee

The bags have been cut into strips, ironed to melt and mix and then free machine embroidery added with various threads.  It is lined with dark red dupion silk and the edges neatened with close zig zag stitch.  It is closed with a magnetic catch and decorated with a red and orange flower.  The bag measure 8.5 x 9 inches (22 x 15 cm).

Eco daisies are made from strips upcycled from plastic shopping bags. The flowers are 3.5" (9cm) across and stand 12" (30cm) tall and proud on slender green wire stems (measurements are approximate).

Moon Fold Salamander Clutch by egluteDesigns

This bag is made from a material created by fusing plastic bags to fabric.  This clutch has two zip-up compartments: The small one measures 15.5 x 9cm; The main, large one, takes up the whole, 32cm in diametre, round bag, but should perhaps be counted as half of it. The big zip is 25cm wide.

Recycled Plastic Shoulder Bag by Greentintedspex

This bag was made from shredded plastic shopping bags crotcheted to create this vibrant one-of a kind piece. A strong and roomy shoulder bag that is bold, colourful and practical. No new materials were used to make this bag - just love and care. 

Satchel by Sally Layer

An individually designed satchel, handmade by Sally Layer. The outer fabric is created by folding and layering plastic long life carrier bags, giving a hint of a shop or brand. The satchel is strong yet soft due to a multi layered lining. The upcycled cotton lining and recycled embellishments make this a fabulous eco friendly, stylish accessory.  Grey with touches of red, black and green outer, grey cotton side panels,adjustable strap and handle. White and red stripe cotton lining and bindings. Magnetic closures, green plastic tabs with grey button detail.

  3. Oh My! I missed this blog when it came out last March.....it's got my credit card wallet in it and I am SO proud!

    It's great to have been found by you and I'm in such great company too, I just love the colours and design that there is on used plastics and just can't let them go straight to re-cycling. Upcycle and send them round again, yes? YES!!

    I've got new items in my "Libby's made It!" Etsy site, vases already and phone cases to be photographed today.... ;-)
